Unwelcome and Unwanted

In the heart of an ancient forest, far away from any civilization, sat a chubby rabbit. It sniffed the ground, searching for a morsal after the autumn frost. Mervyn watched the creature through the tip of his drawn bow, and without another thought, released his pull on the bowstring. The arrow shot through the air and pierced the animal’s heart. The rabbit collapsed, twitching for several seconds before going limp. Mervyn slung the bow over his shoulder and approached. “Sorry little guy, I need to survive this winter too.” He said as he removed the arrow. He picked the rabbit up, then walked in the direction of his cabin, a few kilometers away. The cabin looked shabby, with rough wood paneling and a rusting tin roof. Regardless, it was home. Mervyn hung up the rabbit under a small overhang, then entered the cabin. He then rested his bow and quiver onto the door post. Mervyn’s appearance matched the cabin eerily well.
